Primarily experienced in 2011, 2016, and 2017 models, the engine failure happened due to a leaking head gasket - causing the coolant to mix with the engine oil. It's not an emissions related component though. In the small NA (2.0l and 2.4l) engines there is an oiling tube that goes to the camshafts that is just a little too small. So any synthetic oil crystalizing will clog it up - and that's easy to do when the engines don't get to full operating temperatures often.
